A Guest Blog by our Friends at Range Hoods, Inc.

A new trend is sprouting up in luxury kitchen design that you may not have thought of before; people are installing surfaces in their kitchens that are made out of recycled materials. These reclaimed, luxury surfaces tell a story. The use of these surfaces is also more sustainable than the use of new materials in home building and home remodeling. There are many surfaces in the kitchen where you can implement the use of stylish reclaimed materials.

ART OF BOARD ATTENDS GLOBALSHOP IN LAS VEGAS April 07 2015, 62 Comments

With today's technology savvy customers doing much of their shopping online, it's more important than ever for brick & mortar retailers to create an authentic experience for their customers to keep them coming back. Our credo at Art of Board is authenticity, and we've been lucky to provide surfacing solutions to retailers around the U.S. and in London. So, what are other design and store fixture companies doing to provide these experiences? We went to GlobalShop to find out. GlobalShop is the world's largest annual event for retail design and shopper marketing. We saw everything from tile and building materials to mannequins, lighting, displays and signage. Much of the show felt like we'd "been there, seen that," but there was some stand out creativity that rose above the clutter. Hopefully retailers who attended understand the importance of rising above and take a chance on authenticity to tell (and sell) their customers a story. Otherwise, they'll stay home and simply shop online.

Energy. Excitement. And a resounding BUZZ of creativity, talent and WOW FACTOR. That pretty much sums up the few days we spent in Las Vegas this week for the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center AND The International Surface Event at Mandalay Bay. The shows promised to showcase the latest industry products, trends and technologies – and didn't disappoint. Aside from meeting some amazing industry and media people, the highlight was the Wilson Art party in old Vegas. Huge thanks to Stoner Bunting Advertising and Greg Kammerer from Interior Design for the hospitality and fun!

ART OF BOARD VISITS MODERNICA FACTORY January 22 2015, 20 Comments

The Art of Board team recently visited one of the coolest and most authentic manufacturers of modern furniture design – Modernica in Los Angeles, CA. We obsess over design details, quality and process. So, it was a treat for us to tour a factory where attention to detail is paramount. And process is painstaking. What really blew our minds (besides everything) was the fiberglass shell chairs. Originally designed in 1948, they're one of the most important and recognizable designs of the 20th century. And now Modernica owns all the very same equipment from which the chairs were made in the 40s and 50s.  All made one at a time...by hand...from 2 strands of fiberglass. Could there be an Art of Board x Modernica collaboration in the works? We'll see. Check out the video HERE.

AOB LAUNCHES RECYCLED WALLET TO BENEFIT CHARITY October 29 2013, 1 Comment

Art of Board Partners with CanvasPop, Launches Environmentally-Friendly Wallet to Benefit Charity

Proceeds from sales to be donated to Grind for Life and charity: water

Art of Board, a company known for its “I Ride I Recycle” movement in the skateboarding community, has partnered with CanvasPop, a provider of high-quality canvas printing services, to create a line of truly original and sustainable wallets. The wallets, which begin selling today, are made out of scraps of excess canvas that would normally be disposed of and are beautifully decorated with printed graphics from Art of Board’s skateboard deck tile design.

One hundred percent of the profits from wallet sales will go directly to charity. Art of Board will be donating their proceeds to Grind for Life, an organization founded by skateboarder, Mike Rogers, that provides financial assistance to cancer patients and their families. While CanvasPop’s profits will be benefitting charity: water, a non-profit aimed at bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

“We’re always looking to collaborate with new and exciting companies,” said Bruce Boul, VP and Cofounder of Art of Board. “Being able to create a product that reinforces our commitment to reusing and recycling goods, while being able to contribute the proceeds to such worthwhile causes makes this partnership with CanvasPop that much more special.”

The two-panel, 4x6” wallet will be sold at $24 and contains six card slots and two inside pockets for holding valuables. Art of Board’s unique print design allows the wallet to be sold as a unisex item and CanvasPop’s super-thin canvas material makes the wallet an easy fit into any pocket or bag.

"We’re very excited to announce the launch of the wallets, said Nazim Ahmed, Cofounder of CanvasPop. “Collaborating with Art of Board on this wallet line made perfect sense, seeing as our principles are very closely matched. We’re thrilled to be working with an organization that values sustainability and recycling as much as we do."

For more information, or to purchase the wallet, please visit remade.canvaspop.com

AOB BRINGS RECYCLED DECKS BACK TO BOSTON AND SAN DIEGO SKATESHOPS IN FORM OF SKATE TILE WALLS August 21 2013, 64 Comments

In an age where “culture vultures” swoop in, grow their businesses in the local skateshop and then leave them for big box retailers, AOB and I Ride I Recycle are all about giving these shops the support and recognition they deserve. So, we’re super stoked to have 100% skater-owned and operated shops like Orchard in Boston, MA and McGill’s in Encinitas, CA involved in our movement.

Orchard just opened up their second location on Newbury Street in Boston where owner Broderick Gumpright wrapped a column with AOB skate tile showing pieces of actual decks that once belonged to their customers.  The AOB team also just finished a skate tile feature wall made up of customer decks in McGill’s Skateshop, owned by legendary Bones Brigade rider, Mike McGill.

These skate tile features not only add an engaging and totally original aesthetic to the shops, they also show the local skaters and community a tangible result of their skateboard recycling efforts. Support your local skateshop!
